CROCHET HAIR BOW BARRETTE: A Step-by-Step Guide

 



This hair bow barrette is a very quick and easy crochet project.   It’s so simple, and so adorable.  Update your hairstyling accessories with this beautiful crochet hair bow.  You can choose any yarn color of your choice to personalize and finish off your favorite look!

Materials:

·        5.5 mm hook/ 2.5mm or smaller hook for weaving ends

·        Yarn-4 medium weight yarn.

·        1 small scissors

·        Stitch markers

·        1-2inch barrette

·        Needle and thread

Measurements of hair bow

Length approx.-32 inches

Width approx.- 1 ½ inches

Bow strap-approx. 3 ¾ inches

Abbreviations/Terms to Know

·        sc-single crochet (insert the hook into the work, yarn over and draw the yarn through both the work and the loop on the hook in one movement)

·        in= inch(es)

·        ch=chain

·        slip knot

·        yo- yarn over

·        st(s)-stitch(es)

·        slip stitch, basic sewing

Starting Instructions:

Slip knot: Make a loop, then hook another loop through it. Tighten gently and slide the knot up on the hook.

Yarn over (yo): Wrap the yarn from back to front over the hook.

Chain stitch: Yarn over and draw the yarn through to form a new loop without tightening up the previous one through loop (ch7)

 

Stitch Instructions:

Row 1: Single Crochet (sc) in the next chain from the hook until you reach the end of the row you should have 6 sc stitches on your hook chain 1.

Row 2-desired row length: Repeat row 1, length is approx. 32 inches




Ending Instructions:

Tie off:

Step 1: cut the yarn leave a few inches of yarn for weaving, Step 2: With hook pull the tail through the loop on your hook, Step 3: remove hook on tail to tighten

Weave ends: Step 1: turn project on wrong side. Step 2: insert hook through sts Step 3: grab yarn and weave it back through until tail is not seen.

 

Fold in half add 4 stitch makers to hold ends together

 


Fold top portion add stitch markers in center, and in back to hold in place



Make band to hold bow in place.  Repeat stitch instructions for Row 1 only go to row 11. Repeat end instructions.


Slip stitch to join stitches where blue stitch marker is located, do the same on other side




Place bow band over bow, single crochet band to close and hold band in place



 

Add barrette by sewing the yarn into holes of both sides of barrette on hair band
